We all like simple solutions to complex problems
I like simple, so I ride a bike that only has one gear.
The bike has less to go wrong and gets me to my clinic and back home with minimal fuss. Maintenance is minimal and the bike is reliable all year round.
However, the design and manufacture of the frame, the precise engineering of each wheel, even down to how each brake cable has been twisted to cope with tensional strain … very complex indeed!
If there is ever a problem with my bike, all I need to know is how to fix a flat tire, grease the wheel bearings, change a cable or perhaps the chain. These are simple problems that I have learned how to fix and this enables me to keep my bike on the road.
But if a wheel spoke snapped or if there was a structural problem with the bike frame, I’d need to go to a bike shop for help.
Let’s change the context, as perhaps you have a complex pain or problem
You have a body, a brain, a nervous system and a range of life experiences infinitely more complex than my bike.
More than likely, there was a time when your musculoskeletal system functioned without any fuss.
But now, perhaps you have an ache or a problem with movement (insert your pain or problem here) suggesting that you have an issue.
But you don’t know why it’s happening or what to do about it.
You may have tried simple solutions such as stretching or some exercises on You Tube, because they sound like they might help. But you’re still none the wiser and you still have a problem.
This is where I can help: I teach people how to get rid of their pain.
My role is to teach you how your brain operates your body and directs your movement. Gaining such knowledge and understanding can empower you with simple and sustainable solutions that allow you to enjoy a smooth-running body again.
One of the first things we need to know is that “we don’t know what we don’t know”.
