My injury and night Inside Number 9

My injury and night inside Number 9

Pain and injury put my life on hold until I went Inside Number 9

Maintaining my physical health and fitness are important to me on a personal and professional level. Whilst doing a heavy sandbag work out earlier this year, I felt a sudden pull of pain in my groin and my suspicions of an inguinal (groin) hernia were confirmed by a surgeon. I was told that it would not get better by itself and so I was listed for an open surgical repair…

Whilst waiting for surgery my life was put on hold

At the onset of injury, I stopped lifting any weights. I cut back on running and cancelled a favourite annual race. Cycling squealed to a stop. I was constantly vigilant for pain and wary of how I could play with my two small children. My physical and emotional stability was dependent on an unwieldy orthotic support.

Life was becoming a series of limitations

Eventually I received a surgical date. In preparation, I shut down my clinic and my classes. I turned new patients away and planned a couple of weeks off work to recover. However, the night before the surgery I received a phone call to say that the procedure was cancelled.

My life and business was put on hold again

I’d cancelled new patients knowing that my skills and knowledge could have been the answer that they were looking for. My children continued to grow, yet I still couldn’t join in their play. Knowing I was getting older and losing my hard earned level of fitness and confidence in my physical self.

Frustrations you will share, if you have a persistent injury or pain

However, I am fortunate in that I have had the surgery. Having a spinal epidural and being cognisant whilst somebody opens your abdomen, strums on your intestines and then staples you back together makes you appreciate the irony of an overnight stay Inside number 9…

Yet working with a professional consultant who could promise me that I could return to work and to play and to family… to all the things that I love to do… made the surgery worth it.

Whilst as a physiotherapist I do not perform surgery, I am able to help and guide you back to what you love to do. Click on the contact form below to arrange a discovery call to see if I am the right fit for you.
