Golf and low back pain

Golf and low back pain: Re-evaluating movement returned Liz to the important things in her life – gardening and golf

Low back pain was affecting golf and gardening, very important parts of Liz’s life since retirement. Although she tried to manage with usual GP advice regarding pain medication, heat and exercise her problem was not resolving. This all came to a head in the Summer of 2022, when Liz was unable to play golf or take an active role in her garden. Suffering with pain and unsure of how to help herself or what to do next, Liz spoke to friends to find somebody that could help. and found me via word of mouth.

According to Liz, several people had mentioned there was a very good physiotherapist in Blackwell…

Here’s what Liz had to say about her golf and low back pain:

Nick took great care in discussing the history of my back pain – which had started in my 20’s.  The first appointment was largely taken up with him asking questions to find out what I could and couldn’t do and resulted in a couple of exercises of relatively small, slow movements for me to do regularly until I went back a week later to see how things were progressing.

There was noticeable improvement in my low back pain

Nick gave me further small movements to do and encouraged me to identify for myself what was happening in my back. Nick suggested that I test what we had achieved and I tentatively went back to the golf course to see what would happen.

Success! I was able to play golf again

I have to concentrate on moving properly but that has also helped my swing!

It is a great relief to be able to return to both my hobbies.  I am more conscious about the way my body should move now and confident that if I need help in the future Nick will be able to provide it.

I would encourage anyone with aches, pains and low back pain to go to seek Nick’s help

Nick provides a thoughtful analysis of what is going wrong and identifies simple movements to put it right.
